Abstract: The purpose of the present work is to investigate healing effects of natural sound on plants, when they were irradiated by natural sound recorded at Yakushima. Chrysanthemum irradiated by the natural sound provided good metabolism for absorption of water and growth of new sprouts. The present results suggests that an effectiveness of natural sound on health promotion of life.
Keywords: natural sound, plant, chrysanthemum, sound healing, information, energy, water

1. Introduction

It has been studied and reported that sound has effects on spiritual healing and body healing for human beings.1-3) Especially, it is said that most of natural sounds have the healing effects, and the many CD are sold commercially. However, the healing effects might be suggestion effects of listener themselves. In order to confirm the placebo effects, experiments on animals or plants without the placebo effects should be carried out.
The purpose of the present work is to investigate healing effects of natural sound on plants, when they were irradiated by natural sound recorded at Yakushima.

2. Experimental Procedures

Changes of plants and water of vessel in two different rooms were compared and investigated without changing and adding the water: one room is with natural sound recorded at Yakushima all the time and the other without the sound.
Flowers of chrysanthemum were selected as subjects. For the chrysanthemum, water is easy to be muddy due to microorganisms on the stalks, and the water and stalks are also easy to be rotted. In the present work, two set of 8 flowers of chrysanthemum with same quantity of flower and leaves were prepared in two same transparent vessels with tap water of 1700 ml, as shown in Fig. 1.

These two sets of chrysanthemum were set in two rooms with same area (13.2m2) under the same conditions of lighting, temperature and moisture. Natural sound of little streams recorded in Yakushima (CD: Healing Island ‘Yakushima’ by Satoru Nakata, PICW-1020) was put on only in one room. A CD player (aiwaCSD-A100) was used in the experiment.

3. Results

Figure 2 shows two set of chrysanthemum in two different rooms after 33 days passed. The chrysanthemum in the room with natural sound (right) seems to be flesh compared the other ones (left). A part of leaves are dead for the chrysanthemum in the room without the natural sound (left).

in the room with (right) and without (left) natural sound.

in the room with (right) and without (left) natural sound.

Difference of water in two vessels of Fig. 2 in the room with and without natural sound is shown in Fig. 3. The one with the natural sound shows clear water, and the quantity is decreasing. In addition, new sprouts are observed as indicated by arrows in Fig. 3. On the other hand, for chrysanthemum without the natural sound, water is a little muddy and consumption of water is not so much. Parts of stalks in the water begin to rot.
Figure 4 shows two set of chrysanthemum in two different rooms after 48 days passed. More leaves are dead for the chrysanthemum in the room without the natural sound (left), and consumption of water is little. Fairly parts of stalks in the water are rotting. The chrysanthemum in the room with natural sound (right) has green leaves and more consumption of water as shown in Fig. 5, and the water is clear. In addition, new sprouts begin to grow as indicated by arrows in Fig. 4, which indicates the preservation of life force.

4. Discussion

Chrysanthemum irradiated all the time by the natural sound provided good metabolism and life force for absorption of water and growth of new sprouts. For the other chrysanthemum without the natural sound, most of leaves are dead, and consumption of water is little. The water became muddy, and fairly parts of stalks in the water were rotting and had no new sprouts. Two mechanisms for the cause of effects of the natural sound on plants are considered.
One mechanism is that the natural sound directly affects to plants. Although it is not clear how the plants receive the natural sound, the natural sound would directly affect to life force of the plants. Another mechanism is that the natural sound directly affect to water in vessels. In order to confirm the effect, it is better to analyze the water after irradiation of the natural sound.
For the both mechanism, ‘information’ included in the natural sound is important. Bit information is recorded in the CD, which becomes vibration with certain frequencies of air through speakers. It is believed that the vibration affects to life force of plants or to water in vessel.
The information included in the natural sound appears to be material change consisting of plants. This implies transformation of information → energy → matter, which would correspond to inter-transformation of consciousness → life energy → body matter.4)

5. Comparison with Other Research

It has been reported that improper ultrasonic irradiation gives bad effects on bio-molecular and DNA.5) However, it has also been reported that optimum ultrasonic irradiation is effective for active promotion if plant cells.6)
Effects of sound wave on chrysanthemum had also been reported. It was reported that sound irradiation with 1.0-1.4 kHz had some effects on hormone and DNA of chrysanthemum,7,8) and the sound irradiation showed effectiveness on growth promotion of roots of chrysanthemum.9)
In addition, it was reported that music provided good effects on germination of seeds.10) It is believed that plants and seeds are effective for detection of information as bio-maker.
The natural sound in the present work is not only vibration of air, but also sound with vibration information recorded in a special environment of Yakushima. Probability that such vibration information is accidentally effective to growth of plants is believed to be low.
It is necessary to clarify the difference between simple mechanical sound vibration and natural sound including special information, and the effects on life including human beings. Further analysis of the natural sound such as frequency and intensity would be needed.

6. Conclusion

Chrysanthemum irradiated by the natural sound recorded at Yakushima provided good metabolism for absorption of water and growth of new sprouts. The present results suggests that an effectiveness of natural sound on health promotion of life. Further analysis is expected.
